YOU NEED A JOB…..At some point in time, this is going to be just about everyone’s problem. Unless you’re lucky enough to have your own business (and sometimes even then), you’re going to have to work for someone. Whether you’ve recently been laid off, are trying to escape a tyrannical boss or just looking for a new opportunity, the end result is the same. You need to find employment.Many job experts differ on the best way to proceed with a job search. Generally, though, job searches are commenced in the following ways:Ø Classified Ads/NewspapersØ Use of National Job BoardsØ Posting resumes onlineØ Using a Headhunter/recruiterØ Emailing/Mailing unsolicited resumesØ NetworkingYou may end up picking any one or a combination of some of the above methods. You may even experience a small amount of success. However, for the most part, I’ve found the following problems with these methods:Ø Online job hunting is very time consumingØ Relatively low response rateØ Too many candidates competing for the same positionsAnd perhaps the most important factor: missing out on the hidden job market.A few words on the hidden job market – it is huge. If you’re not taking advantage of this method of job hunting, then you are missing the boat. From my experience, up to 75% of available jobs are not listed in print (this includes newspapers, printed media or online).Even your professional networking efforts probably will not uncover the hidden job market.

Hide & Seek – The Hotel Job Market Game

It’s so easy these days. You type whatever you want into a search engine and up comes a list, pages and pages of what you are looking for.

Hotel jobs for instance. Recruiting agents, employers, web-communities, there are hundreds. Employers have it dead easy too. Enter what you are looking for, attach a short description, perhaps a salary, on your own website or at one of the numerous platforms.

So far so good. But what then? Hotel professionals say that they can’t find a job. If you ask hoteliers, they say it’s very difficult to find employees.

I am sure that there are a number of people who can shed some light on this by sharing their experience. So, let us start by asking a few job seekers, recruiting agencies and employers…
